Frequently Asked Questions

I’m sure that you have lots of questions!

I’ve tried to answer some of the common ones here, but if there’s something else please contact me.

What are the best times for sessions?

Most sessions last around 2 hours, so the best times for sessions will depend on you and your children. Typically, most sessions take place at either 9am or 1pm (after breakfast or after lunch). This helps get the most out of the session without worrying about hunger pains.

Newborn sessions take as long as is needed.

Where will the sessions take place?

We will decide on the location during our initial consultation, but sessions usually take place at either an outdoor location or your home. One-off special shoots, such as Christmas sessions, can take place at my home studio. Again, we will discuss this during our initial consultation.

What do I need to prepare before the photo session?

I will provide you with preparation guidelines and helpful advice during our initial consultation. You can also prepare by downloading the Dream Shoot Planner here.

Here are some other pointers:

Regarding clothes, it is best to think of your family’s clothes as one outfit so that your styles match.

Try not to have too many patterns. Simple is best for photo shoots.

Props do work but are not necessary.

Do I need to place an order with you before booking?

No. Not at all. For a booking, I require a deposit that will go towards the package of your choice. Shoots are only booked after the deposit has been received.

What happens if someone is ill? Can we reschedule?

As a parent myself, I understand these things happen and shooting with a child who feels ill will not produce beautiful pictures. We will reschedule to the closest available date.

I don’t like how I look in pictures. Can I not be in them?

I think every single adult that I have photographed has said something along these lines. However, they have also always been very pleased with the end result. I know how to pose you and how to choose the best ones to get the very most from your session.

While there are many sessions that don’t include the parents, remember that family photography is more for the children than for you. And they want to see YOU!

When will I see the photos?

I prefer to show you your pictures as soon as possible, so if you have time on the day, I can show you a preview after I have culled and lightly edited. If not, we will arrange a different date/time so you can view the final edits and pick the ones you’d like.

“Aina is an excellent photographer and such a nice person to be photographed by. She gave me useful tips for posing, showed me secret and beautiful places in Cambridge and was really flexible to also accommodate what I was looking for in terms of pictures.
